In Training and Employment Guidance Letter (TEGL) 03-25, the Department of Labor (DOL) encourages state and local workforce development systems to use Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds to help youth and adults develop artificial intelligence (AI) skills. Explore the resources linked on this page to learn more about supporting AI literacy throughout the workforce system.
- U.S. DOL’s AI Literacy Framework: The framework, which outlines five foundational content areas and seven delivery principles for AI literacy, is intended to be a resource to guide program design and deployment of AI literacy efforts, while allowing for flexibility and adaptation across industries, roles, educational sectors, and other workforce-related contexts.
- AI Literacy Webinar Series: Workforce practitioners will learn about DOL’s AI Literacy Framework in this foundational webinar series featuring stakeholders in dialogue. This four-part webinar series explores AI literacy across key sectors, including the workforce, education, healthcare, manufacturing, and the skilled trades, as well as the ethical use of AI.
- Make America AI-Ready: A free AI literacy course that will help American workers learn the basics of AI simply by texting “READY” to 20202. The course engages participants with daily content that directly aligns with the five foundational areas outlined in DOL's AI Literacy Framework. - Registered Apprenticeship Innovation Portal: Explore resources, models, and insights to integrate AI into your Registered Apprenticeship programs.
- AI.gov: The White House Task Force on AI Education is establishing public-private partnerships with leading AI industries, academic institutions, nonprofit entities, and other organizations to provide online resources fostering foundational AI literacy and critical thinking skills for America’s youth. Refer to AI.gov for information about these resources as they become available.
- White House Pledge to America’s Youth - Investing in AI Education: View the organizations pledging to invest in America’s K-12 students, parents, and teachers by providing resources that cultivate the skills and knowledge necessary for an AI-ready workforce and the next generation of American innovators.
- Competency Model Clearinghouse (CMC): The CMC's Building Blocks Model can be used to communicate fundamental workforce needs as the basis for nationwide Industry Competency Models or custom competency models. The Tier 2 – Academic Competencies Basic Computer Skills competency block of the Building Blocks Model reflects changes in workplace technology and the growing importance and scope of digital skills.
- U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) AI Resources: Through NSF's investments in education and workforce preparation, NSF has supported the development of various resources to support AI literacy, including on how to teach, learn, and use AI. Visit NSF’s website to explore their resources on AI.
